Congress supporters allegedly attack BJP workers, Rakibul claims conspiracy

GAON (HAIBORGAON), March 24: At an open attack with various weapons by some allegedly Congress supporters and workers at Samuguri constituency on Wednesday, around 50 BJP workers and supporters including four TV jourlists sustained injuries and demolished around 10 vehicles which carried BJP workers and supporters while BJP star campaigner Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma led a rally on foot from Karaimari to Sivasthan.

According to the eyewitness, the alleged attack by the Congress supporters took place while the rally almost reached Sivasthan where Dr Sarma addressed an election meeting. The sources added that at first the supporters of Congress allegedly tried to restrain the rally at Muwamari area when they could not do so, just half kilometre ahead of Sivasthan, the supporters of Congress allegedly attacked the BJP workers and supporters with timber and bamboo sticks.

The attackers demolished around vehicles that the BJP supporters used during the rally as a result of which more than 50 BJP workers and supporters sustained severe injuries. In the meantime, CRPF and other police personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The injured BJP supporters were later on sent to hospital for further treatment. The sources added that in the attack along with others four TV jourlists were also injured.

On the other hand, soon after the meeting, another group of Congress supporters allegedly tried to attack Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma near Muwamari area while he was coming back. The Congress supporters allegedly threw stones and splinters of brick at Sarma’s vehicle. Later, the BJP unit of the constituency lodged an FIR at Samaguri Police Station in which BJP mentioned 20 Congress supporters who attacked the BJP workers. The BJP workers later in the afternoon blocked the road and the Samaguri police station for several hours.

 On the other hand, minister Rokibul Hussain who is the Congress candidate for the constituency, addressed a press conference at gaon Rajip Bhavan and stated that the whole incident of Wednesday was nothing but a part of consecutive political conspiracy. He even said that the BJP supporters allegedly attacked Congress supporters and entered the household of Congress workers and stched away the flags of Congress. Hussain said that he would appeal for judicial enquiry into the whole incident. Interestingly, at the conference, more than 50 workers and office bearers of Samaguri AIUDF party formally joined the Congress.
