Congress takes out 'commul harmony' rally in Jorhat

From a Correspondent

JORHAT, January 25: Two days after the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) activists took out a procession throughout Jorhat city on Saturday, the Congress (INC) Jorhat district committee members also took out a commul harmony rally starting from the Rajiv Bhavan in Jorhat and through the entire Jorhat city on Monday to spread the message of universal brotherhood, peace and harmony among the people of Assam in the wake of divisive forces bent on dividing the people on religious lines by spreading commul hatred. The rally was participated by Koliabar MP Gaurav Gogoi, Jorhat legislator Ra Goswami and former Congress MP Deep Gogoi and hundreds of Congress workers from various corners of the district.

MP Gaurav Gogoi said, “The motive behind the rally is to spread the message of universal brotherhood, commul harmony and development among the people. Dedication and willingness to serve the people are the key words which can usher in an era of peace and development in the State. Just yesterday the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi launched the Bagan Bus (Tea Garden Bus) and distributed land deeds among the people and henceforth we first need the prevalence of a peaceful environment so that the people instead of developing hatred among each other, develop the State peacefully.”

The MP criticized Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa for his remarks on Rahul Gandhi and said, “MPs like Kamakhya Prasad Tasa work more on dividing the people by preaching commul hatred. The kind of politics they do is not to strengthen the age-old commul harmony existing between the people but to divide them. People must abstain from getting influenced by such cheap politics. Under the Congress government, a bright and meritorious student can get Rs 25,000 worth laptop but the Dhan Jan Yoza of the Central Government which promised Rs 15 lakh to each family is still a distant dream. The Congress under Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is a straight party where no double standards exist. The Chief Minister himself speaks very bluntly. The government is committed for only development.”
