Congress to organize mass rally in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, March 15: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Anjan Dutta are likely to arrive at Daimalu field, Kokrajhar on March 18 to address a mass rally to be organized by the party to woo the voters in the BTC election.

The APCC has already sent 15 coorditors of the party for the BTC election that includes Rupak Sarma, Ikramul Huda, Atikur Rehman, Chandan Baruah, Hukum Chand Bakshi and Dulu Ahmed. They also held meetings at Rajiv Bhavan, Kokrajhar on Saturday and discussed the strategy to contest in the election.

Rupak Sarma, one of the coorditors, said that preparation was on to organize a mass rally at Daimalu field in Kokrajhar on March 18. He said that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and president of APCC Anjan Dutta, along with senior leaders had consented to take part in the rally. Sarma claimed that the Congress would win in most of the seats. Lahendra Basumatary, president of Kokrajhar district Congress committee, said that the Congress was planning to contest in 12 constituencies in the district. He alleged that the ruling BPF could not give security to the common people.

The BJP, on the other hand, brought out a huge people’s gathering at Daimalu field in Kokrajhar on March 8 where several hundreds of people thronged the rally. As many as five BJP MPs of Assam including Union Minister of Sports Sarbanda Sonowal addressed the rally. In the people’s gathering around 22 newly joined members mostly from BPF were felicitated.
