Congress training youths to help in NRC update

TINGKHANG,  June 30 :  The Tingkhang Block Congress Committee  has trained up 35 educated youths of the area to help people in the NRC update process.

Addressing a press conference here today, Tingkhang Block Congress Committee president Ramesh Changmai said that the committee has also set up NRC help centers in  28 tea estates  as well as in the villages of the area so that people can correctly fill up the NRC forms.

“We have started the process from June 28 and it will continue for one month,” Changmai said.

“We have trained up 28 educated youths to help the people in filing NRC forms correctly besides setting up NRC help centers,” he added.

The press meet was also attended by Block Congress Committee secretary Shankar Mandal, former secretary Jivan Changmai and other Congress leaders.  

The process of updating the tiol Register of Citizens (NRC) have been started all over Assam from March 27.

The NRC, which is a database of all Indian citizens, was updated in 1951. This will now be updated only in Assam to solve its problem of illegal migration, especially from Bangladesh.

The citizenship status will be ascertained based on the legacy data (mes of ancestors) available in the NRC 1951, electoral rolls of 1966 and March 24, 1971, which have been made available at the kendras or on the website.
