SHILLONG, Aug 19: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president DD Lapang on Saturday said that the Congress neither cares nor have time to identify the legislators who wants to desert the party.

“Those who want to apply for ticket from Congress, they will come and take their application form and those will not take they will not be with us and they are free to decide…everybody is free to take their decision,” Lapang said.

The Congress will call for applications from party workers for all the 60 seats towards the end of this month.

“Those who think that the Congress is not a good place for them, they are free to take a call,” Lapang added.

The MPCC president further said that there is no dearth of capable and potential candidates in the Congress.

He also said that many parties may not be able to set up candidates in all the assembly seats but the Congress will put up candidates in all the 60 constituencies.

The MPCC president also claimed that his party will form the government in the State after the 2018 assembly elections.

When asked the prospect of the party in the 2018 election, especially with some of the legislators contemplating to leave the party, Lapang said, “We don’t know (of MLAs’ plans to leave the Congress) but we are sure we will be in the government. We are sure that all regiol and tiol parties in Meghalaya, nobody can beat the Congress.”

When asked how many seats the Congress would win he said that he was not a fortune teller or an astrologer but can assure that his party will be in the government.

Regarding the poll preparation, Lapang said that the party needs no preparation because they are always alert and its office is functiol.

According to the MPCC president, the party has been preparing for the election for the past one year.

On BJP criticizing the state government Lapang said that the people (voters) will reply to them appropriately in the elections.
