Congress will obtain 71 seats and form government: Dutta

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

GAURISAGAR, April 2: In the first phase of poll, Congress will get 40 seats out of 65 and in second phase, out of 61 seats, Congress will obtain 31 seats. Without help of any alliance, by obtaining 71 seats Congress will form government for the fourth consecutive time in Assam. This is stated by Anjan Dutta, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president, while addressing a media conference held at Rajiv Bhavan, Gaurisagar on Saturday at the end of the campaign of first phase of assembly poll.

Addressing media persons, Dutta said that by obtaining seven seats in the last Loka Sabha poll, Sarbnonda Sonowal has dreamt of a good result in the forthcoming assembly election.  “But they totally failed to create a conducive environment in the election meetings. Instead of highlighting development issues, they only criticized the Congress government, describing it as a total failure. The high-profile leaders of BJP are coming to Assam only to deliver abusive speech against the Congress,” said Dutta.

He also criticized Prime Minister rendra Modi for comparing Sarbanonda Sonowal to diamond.  “BJP is a rich people’s party. They do not do anything for the poor,” he said.

Criticizing the tenure of the 13-month long Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government, Dutta said that during this period BJP had curtailed all appointments and school provincialization in Assam. The then Chief Minister Prafulla Kr. Mahanta willingly extended support and signed a treaty.

Dutta  said that during the rule of Congress government, appointments were done  and schools and colleges  were provincialized. So the teacher community of Assam should be grateful to the Congress party. When asked about the recent opinion poll, Dutta said that a BJP-influenced organization was misleading the people of Assam and violating the code of conduct. Dutta has written a complaint to Election Commission of India  against the  organization and will move the court against the organization.

When asked about his Chief Minister’s dream, the APCC president said that he had no dream of becoming Chief Minister. If the legislators wanted him then he was ready to take the charge of Chief Minister.

In the press conference Angkita Dutta, candidate of No 103  Amguri LAC of INC and Ajit Ranjan Gogoi, president, Sivasagar Zila Congress Committee were present.
