Congress workers urged to gear up for panchayat polls

JORHAT, Aug 25: With panchayat polls round the corner, the All Assam Congress Committee members have been asked to fasten their seat belts. The Congress will contest the polls alone without any alliance with the AIUDF or any other party. It is high time for the Congress to prove its unity and strength, said Ra Goswami, the general secretary of Akhil Bharat Congress Committee during the Congress workers’ meet for women’s wing organized by Jorhat District Committee at District Congress Bhavan on Thursday.

Flaying the ruling BJP party, Ra Goswami said the BJP was trying to create a divide between various communities and to disrupt peace in the society. The general secretary of Akhil Bharat Congress Committee asked the women of the State had to be politically aware in order to contribute to tion building. He heavily flayed the RSS for the entry of its members into the historic complex of Rangghar Bakori which was meant purely for historic purpose.

He said that the people of Assam voted the BJP government for change but the government had only deceived the people with its false promises. He said that hike in the price of LPG cylinders was a serious problem during the Congress government’s rule. At that time the price of LPG cylinder was Rs 350 but now it had increased to Rs 600 during the BJP government’s rule.

Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who attended as the chief guest, said the Sarbanda Sonowal government was trying to sell out Assam’s land and property because it was being controlled by RSS from gpur. He said the people of Assam would give an appropriate answer in the coming panchayat election. He also came down heavily on the Centre for not providing enough relief to the State which has been hit by two waves of flood.

Dip Gogoi and Borli Saikia Bora, the district president and general secretary of All Assam Mahila Congress Committee respectively, too called upon the women workers to be politically aware and to start politics right from their kitchen to the society via amghars during this holy Bhado month.
