Sonowal lays foundation of road project at Cachar

Silchar , Oct 12: In a move to improve connectivity and communication of Barak Valley Region with special emphasis on connectivity of Cachar, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of a project “Upgradation and Improvement of Silchar-Kumbhirgram Road (from Gossaipur Point of Mahasadak to Kumbhirgram Airport) at Udharbond in Cachar on Thursday .
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the proposed project for upgrade of road, measuring more than 16 km, would add a new dimension to the growth of Barak Valley as the people coming from outside to the three districts of Barak Valley would have to go through the proposed road.
He said, “State Government is committed to improve connectivity of Barak Valley Region as the government is putting special emphasis to improve the road conditions including laying new network of roads in the districts.” He also said that his government would make all the roads in Barak Valley Region pucca and connection of Barak Valley Region with other districts of Assam would be made seamless.
He also emphasised that his government is according importance to the improvement of roads in Barak Valley to unleash an era of economic development in the region. He also said that the State Government has sanctioned Rs. 500 crore for the development of tiol Highways in the valley. He also said the tiol highway leading to Tripura would be upgraded to make connectivity between two States hassle-free.
Stressing that people are the guardians of the government, he urged upon the people of Barak Valley Region to maintain close vigil on the implementation of road projects in Barak. Stating that the government has adopted a zero tolerance against corruption, Chief Minister Sonowal has asked the people of the region to act as a deterrent against corrupt practices and help the government’s bid in giving a corruption free administration.
For the convenience of the people of Barak Valley, Sonowal also reiterated that his government would very shortly start constructing a Mini Secretariat for Barak Valley Region.
