Shillong, May 8: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Kongkal Sangma on Tuesday said that a mechanism has to be worked out so that development and welfare projects can be taken in sync with a balance on the environment. Conrad was speaking at the launch of the Meghalaya Community Led Landscape Management Project (CLLMP).

The Chief Minister said that the state is blessed with rich natural resources but at times people take the resources for granted and exploit it to the maximum, especially while development projects are initiated. On the CLLMP, Conrad said that the main outcome of the project would be livelihood generation through sustainable management of resources.

“The project has a lot to gain since for the first time people and the community are being roped in as partners that would instill a sense of ownership among the stakeholders to carry forward the development initiative,” the Chief Minister added.

The development objective of the Meghalaya Community- Led Landscapes Management Project is to strengthen community-led Landscapes management in selected landscapes in the state of Meghalaya. The project is being implemented by the Meghalaya Basin Development Agency with financial assistance from the World Bank.
