Conrad meets DoNER minister

Shillong, Jan 16: Tura Member of Parliament Conrad K Sangma today met Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh to discuss the tourism potential of the northeast. During the meeting, Dr Singh was given an audio-visual presentation about the roadmap conceived for placing northeast on general and Shillong in particular as a tourist destition. The presentation highlighted the various options and itineraries with focus on a three-day holiday capsule incorporating cultural activities, meditation centres, music workshops, experience of food cuisines and trekking options. The DoNER Minister was of the opinion that Shillong which was the capital of the Britishers and undivided Assam after independence has not received the kind of tourism attention as it deserves. Dr Singh however pointed out that the DoNER Ministry with a view to make the Shillong Airport fully functiol has offered to fund the budget required for extension of the air-strip. The DoNER Minister also said that some of the music groups from Meghalaya can also be made part of the tourism bonza capsule.
