Conrad meets Railway Minister

From Staff Correspondent

Shillong, Sept 20: Tura Lok Sabha MP Conrad K Sangma met Union Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal at the Rail Bhawan in New Delhi on Wednesday and congratulated him for taking over as the new Minister in charge of Railways. He expressed the hope that under Goyal’s leadership railway in India would achieve greater heights in safety and overall connectivity, especially in areas like the Northeast that are not well connected yet.  Sangma briefed the Minister about the Mendipathar railway station and the service that was running there and how it had economically impacted the lives of the local people in and around the region.

The Tura MP further urged the Union Minister to take up more projects in the Northeast that would improve the rail connectivity and make a difference in people’s lives.

Sangma also pleaded with the Minister to take up the issue of making a provision for railways track in the proposed Dhubri-Phulbari bridge over the Brahmaputra. As per the current plan, the proposed bridge is to provide only road connectivity. He stated that since the bridge funded under JICA was meant for vehicles, a provision for future expansion for railways will ensure better utility of the investment and infrastructure being put up. Goyal assured Sangma that he will try and take up the issues raised and will try and find solutions to them.
