Conrad seeks Rajth Singh's intervention

Visa extension for missiories

Tura, April 27: Tura Lok Sabha member and tiol People’s Party chief Conrad K. Sangma today meet union home minister Rajth Singh in Delhi seeking his attention on cancellation of visas of Christian missiories, especially of those who have been working in India for the last 30 years.

In a release issued here, Conrad said that Rajth Singh was surprised when informed about the cancellation of the visa for the missiories. The MP said that Singh has assured to taken up the matter at the earliest. He also apprised Rajth Singh on the problems being faced by Christian organisations with regards to renewal of FCRA registration.

“Rajth ji mentioned that some officers had been removed from the Department which led to some problems and delays in the system but assured that he will look into the matter and get it resolved at the earliest”, Conrad said in the release.

Earlier this month, Conrad and Shillong MP Vincent Pala had written to Prime Minister rendra Modi and Rajth Singh seeking his intervention on the extension of visas for missiories.

Conrad had stated in his letter to Singh that there were many instances where many missiories have faced problems in getting their visas extended, which was not in the past, which has led to lot of confusion and difficulties for these missiories who have been working tirelessly for the poor and needy in the country.
