Shillong, April 26:  Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today visited the construction site of the Shillong International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture (SICPAC) along with Minister for Arts and Culture AL Hek to inspect the progress of work. Speaking to the small gathering, the Chief Minister said that the Government would ensure smooth progress of the work so as to enable the project to be completed within the stipulated time.

The project when completed will act as an International convention centre with state-of-the-art facilities for hosting mega cultural events. The complex located at Mawkasiang in the New Shillong Township, will house two international standard auditoria with a seating capacity of 1750 and 612 and a smaller theatre complex with an approximate seating capacity of around 325. The front of the complex is designated for a 15,000 capacity open air concert area. The SICPAC will function as a training centre for art, music, films and television and multimedia for the youth of Meghalaya and the North-eastern region.
