Conrad writes to Gadkari on road project

FROM A REPORTER
SHILLONG, July 23: Tura MP Conrad K Sangma in a letter to Union Minister Road and Surface Transport minister Nitin Gadkari has requested the central government that the road under North Eastern Council connecting Agia in Assam to Garobada via Tikrikilla, Phulbari, Singmari, Rajabala, in Meghalaya to be taken up as tiol highway.
Sangma in the letter said that the proposed road is a lifeline for the people living in the region where a population of over two lakh is affected. During rainy season the people suffer badly, they remain completely cut off from the rest of the state and the country as it gets flooded in the absence of proper road.
“The people who are living in and around this areas connected by this road are facing immense and untold hardship as the road are completely neglected by the central as well as the State Government for many years,” he said. He further said that as the road condition has worsened people are forced to take alterte route which is a much lengthier in distance as they have to take NH-52 by crossing two districts.
