Conspiracy to destroy Balikuchi animal market alleged

BAIHATA CHARIALI, July 16:  Balikuchi animal market under Kamalpur LAC is held along the Kamrup- Darrang district border every Monday. It has been a symbol of unity among the people of both the districts since decades.

From the animal market the government has been receiving a large amount of revenue but due to the alleged conspiracy of some persons with vested interest, the animal market is facing problems which have affected its sales.

The chief executive officer of Kamrup Zila Parishad (KZP) has authorized Mati Ram Das to collect revenue from the market  from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018 by an order (KZP-G- 147/ 2017-18/893 dated 30/6/2017) since he was the highest bidder in the tender called by the authority for the market  for this year.  Moti Ram Das said that he got the contract to collect the revenue through tender at a value of Rs 2,44,50,000 for this year but a certain lobby which failed to get the contract through the tender process, has allegedly hatched a conspiracy to destroy the market by opening another market on the same day at Sorisal in Darrang district, adjacent to the Balikuchi animal market.  Das and his associates alleged that there was no animal market in the area for the past eight years but now the lobby was trying to obstruct the businessmen on the way to Balikuchi animal market.

The conscious section of the area along with the Balikuchi market committee said that such a move would adversely affect the sales of Balikuchi animal market and also the peace and harmony between the people of the districts. Hence, the Balikuchi  market committee has demanded the authorities concerned to look into the mater seriously and to take suitable steps against the lobby which was acting against the interests of Balikuchi animal market.
