Construction work by Meghalaya Government inside Assam

HOWRAGHAT,  April 20:  A section of people of Umru-II area of West Karbi Anglong district located along the Assam-Meghalaya border is blaming the Assam government for allowing the Meghalaya government to construct projects inside Karbi Anglong. A group of student leaders have alleged that construction of playground, IAY houses have been accomplished in Umru-II area inside West Karbi Anglong district by the Meghalaya government recently. The area is just 4 kilometers away from Mowshaladiang of Ribhoi district of Meghalaya and is inhabited by about 90 families out of which 70 families belong to the Gorkha community.

  Mentioned may be made that construction work of border outpost started near the area on March 31, this year but the work was effectively stopped by members of several organizations from Meghalaya infuriating stern anger and protest in the district. The structure was smashed up by unknown malefactors at night. The construction work has been given up without any follow-up. When communicated Pradip Rongpi, Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council who represents the locality said that the KAAC authority shall initiate appropriate step to protest the indignity.
