Consumer court asks Prime Cabs to pay compensation

GUWAHATI, June 24: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Kamrup has ordered Prime Cabs, a taxi service establishment, to pay compensation of Rs 49,119 to a complaint, Susanta Kundu, within 60 days from the date of complaint.  Kundu booked a cab of ‘Prime Cabs’ on for his journey from Bamunimaidam to Guwahati Intertiol Airport on October 1, 2014. The pickup time of the cab was at 11.00 am sharp so as to avail the flight of Indigo Air Service from Guwahati to Delhi at 1.25 pm. On scheduled day, the Prime Cabs officio assured Kundu of picking him up in right time, on repeated enquiry. However, the cabbie reached 43 minutes late i.e. at 11.43 pm, due to which Kundu and other two family members missed the flight of Indigo Air. They arrived in Guwahati Airport at 12.55 pm. Kundu had failed to catch flight of Indigo Airline and had to purchase a new ticket paying additiol amount  in the flight of Spice Jet to reach New Delhi. In spite of repeated complaint to Prime Cabs authority about the incident, Kundu did not get any response from the other side. Thereafter, the complaints file a complaint with Consumers’ Legal Protection Forum, a consumer rights body against Prime Cabs for their deficiency in service and negligence. On behalf of the complaints, Advocate Subhash Mohan Sarma, Administrator and Advocate Ajoy Hazarika, Secretary of Consumers’ Legal Protection Forum filed cases bearing the case number CC-118/2014 with the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Kamrup. After one-and-a-half-year prosecution the District Forum ordered Prime Cabs to pay a compensation of Rs. 49,119 to the complaint.
