Silchar, Jan 12: Despite all round development, there is no city bus service on Chengcoorie Road, Silchar. In this regard, the members of Grahak Suraksha Samiti (GSS) have urged upon the district administration to provide and introduce city bus service on Chengcoorie Road so that poor people do not have to spend Rs.40 per day for reaching heart of the town. This demand was put forth recently at a general meeting held at Singhari High School. Indra Kumar Sinha, member, GSS, said that it is difficult for the people to spend so much in transportation. He also placed the Samiti’s demand for providing facilities for transforming Ambicapur GP into a smart GP that was promised to them in 2014. He further said that no such facilities have been provided for transforming the GP into a smart one.
A number of other speakers, Chabi Sinha, president, Ambicapur Gp along with members of GSS, Amar Prajapati, Nishikanta Sinha, Bimal Sinha, Babli th, Hemendra Ds, Motilal Das, Dharam Singha, Shanto Babu Singha, spoke at length regarding the previously mentioned problems. They further said that if bus service were not introduced as soon as possible, they would resort to mass movement, protest and demonstration. Amrit Kumar Acharjee, vice president of the central committee of the Samiti said, “The condition of Nehru High School, Singhari, even in its 64th year, is pathetic and need beggar’s description.”
Corruption in the proper distribution of rice and kerosene oil is not a new phenomenon. Another member of the Samiti, Rajendra Sinha said that Rangirkhari-Bhajantipur Cooperative Society is one of the most corrupt societies of all. All the speakers opined that if mass movement were not organized then this sector would forever remain corrupted. It was also decided at the meeting that the director of the Cooperative Society has to answer before the Court. It was also that a meeting would be organized on March 15 in West Silchar at which the director’s illegal activities, unscrupulous and dishonest means of earning money, cheating customers, would be unveiled.
