Consumers urged to be aware of their rights

MANGALDAI, March 16:  In connection with the celebration of the 32nd World Consumer Rights Day, different consumer awareness programmes such as bike rally, street drama and public meetings were organized in Mangaldai.

A bike rally was taken out throughout the main streets of the district headquarters town by the members of the voluntary organization Crystal Vision with active cooperation of the Darrang district administration. The bikers in the rally displayed banners and placards on various subjects related to the rights and protection of the consumers, awareness against corrupt practices of dishonest sellers, exercising the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 for justice and role of consumer courts. The bike rally was flagged off by Darrang Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar in presence of senior government officials, including Superintendent of Police, Vivek Raj Singh, Additiol Deputy Commissioner Bashri th and Circle Officer of Mangaldai Revenue Circle, yan Jyoti Pathak among others.

Speaking on the occasion the Deputy Commissioner lamented about the poor level of awareness among the consumers and urged the consumers to be aware of their legitimate rights regarding the quality of goods and services. Earlier senior media person and president of the voluntary organization Crystal Vision, Mayukh Goswami, explained the significance of the day.

A series of awareness street drama were performed in various points of the town. The local Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department organized public meetings in some places of the district.
