Contest between Congress and AGP-BJP candidates in harkatia likely

mrup, March 29: With the Assam Assembly polls round the corner, the election campaign for the 120 harkatia Legislative Assembly has already gained momentum. All the political and independent candidates have left no stone unturned to intensify their electioneering by various ways to woo the confidence of voters. This time the segment has 1, 17,547 voters out of which near about 30,000 are tea tribe voters from 22 tea gardens of the constituency.

The Indian tiol Congress has again nomited four-time winner sitting MLA Prati Phukan as its candidate for the seat. Prati Phukan is contesting for fifth consecutive time from 120 harkatia LAC. In the last four assembly elections from 1996 to 2011, Prati Phukan wrested the seat by defeating her nearest rivals by epoch making margin of votes. In 2011 assembly poll, Prati Phukan won the seat by defeating her rival AGP candidate Noren Sonowal by a margin of 14,397 votes.

This time although the six candidates are in fray, the main contest will mainly be between Congress candidate Prati Phukan and AGP candidate Noren Sonowal. In the last parliamentary poll, BJP got good support from the voters of the 120 NHK segment. This time also AGP-BJP supporters are claiming that their candidate Noren Sonowal will surely win the seat by a substantial margin. The poll aspirants of both the AGP and BJP too have launched election- related activities enough to bag the seat.
