Continue construction of LSHEP: ASF

Itagar, May 6: The Aruchal Students’ Federation (ASF) has requested the state government to continue with the construction of 2000 MW Lower Subansiri Lower Hydro Electricity Project (LSHEP), Gerukhamukh. In a letter to the chief minister, it criticized Assam based associations for forcibly halting the construction of the dam for its demand to institute comprehensive ecological study of the Brahmaputra and its basin.

“Sixty per cent of the project work has been completed with prior endorsement from CEA and CWC besides the project is being carried out in Subansiri River basin. It does not make any sense in linking the demand of carrying out comprehensive ecological study of the Brahmaputra and its basin to construction of the project. If these associations are so concerned about the ecological system then why did they not raise their demand before the commencement of the project?” the ASF lamented in the letter.
