Contract system proposed for Indian women cricketers

Kolkata, May 24: Much like their male counterparts, a contract system was proposed for the Indian women's cricketers among other other changes to be brought in by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

BCCI's Women's Cricket Committee met here on Sunday and made the recommendations to the Working Committee.

"On the lines of men's cricket, a contract system for intertiol women cricketers was proposed. It was also proposed to have more intertiol fixtures for the Indian women's cricket team," said BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur.

The committee also proposed to add two tourments in the domestic schedule for women cricketers.

"The committee recommended adding two more tourments to give more exposure and opportunities to women cricketers at the domestic level. The committee proposed to start an Under-16 state level tourment within the zones. It also proposed to start an Under-23 tourment," added Thakur.

However, the present formats of the women’s U-19 tourment and the senior tourment will remain unchanged. IANS
