Contract teachers threaten agitation

IMPHAL, April 8: Dismayed by the government negligence despite continuous demands, the All Manipur Hill Districts Contract Basis Teachers’ Association has threatened to launch agitations to have their issues redressed.

A joint statement was issued on Wednesday by K. Law James, secretary and P.A. Epchan, convener announcing the series of agitations. It said that despite memoranda and agitations the government had turned a deaf ear to their demand to regularize the contractual teachers.

Now the Association had decided to shut down all tiol projects undertaken in Tamenglong and Sepati districts from April 9. If there is still no response from the government, the association will be compelled to impose an economic blockade from April 12. This will be an indefinite blockade.
