Contractor held for misuse of untied fund

JORHAT, July 4: A contractor from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Jorhat, who was wanted for misappropriation of government funds to the tune of Rs 70 lakh from schemes like untied fund, has been booked under Jorhat Police Station case no.2523/16 under section 409/468/471/420/34 of the IPC. He was picked up by a team of Jorhat Police led by TSI Heman Das and Tuniram Neog from his Choladhora residence in the wee hours on Tuesday.

He has been identified as Prabhat Dutta. According to the investigating officer Tuniram Neog, Prabhat Dutta was wanted for misappropriation of untied fund to the tune of Rs 70 lakh which was siphoned during the period of 2014-15 following a letter DCTA01/2014/43 dated 20-11-2015 based on RTI report which proved misappropriation of untied fund. For this, earlier two ADCs Anjav Chaliha and Bubul Lekharu, contractor Ujjaljyoti Bora, DC office assistant Ajit Burahgohain, and now Prabhat Dutta have been arrested for misappropriation of government fund meant for developmental activities during  the tenure of Vishal Vasant Solanki, the former Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat.

Prabhat Dutta, who is the father of popular Assamese singer Chayanika Dutta, said that he had been victimized for being close to the Congress party and that this conspiracy had been hatched by the BJP-AGP lobby which was jealous of his achievements. “I had produced all documents and work order and pending bills as I am yet to get over Rs 70 lakh from the DC’s office, Jorhat, and if they want it they will deduct it from my dues which I am yet to get,” he said.
