Contractual and casual labour unions launch hunger strike

 From a Correspondent

mrup, Feb 5: The All Assam Casual Power Workers’ Association (AACPWA), mrup Generation Unit, in association with APGCL Contractual Labour Association, have started their indefinite sit-in hunger strike in front of the GM office, NTPS from Monday as the APGCL authority failed to fulfill their demands.
AACPWA, mrup Unit and APGCL Contractual Labour Union already held a meeting with APGCL authority on June 19, 2017 where regularization of contractual and fixed pay labourers were demanded. The authority in turn promised to implement the aforesaid demands within September, 2018. But hitherto no any action has been seen on the part of APGCL authority in this regard. Thus, the casual and contractual labourers’ union has decided to carry forward their hunger strike as a mark of protest which was temporarily postponed on June 20, 2017 after getting written assurance from the authority concerned.
The activists, by displaying banners and shouting slogans, tried to mount pressure on the APGCL authority to fulfill their demands at the earliest. The leaders of the unions stated  that all the contractual and fixed pay labourers of NTPS would refrain from working till their demands were fulfilled. They also warned that the NTPS  and APGCL authority would be held responsible if any unprecedented incident occurred due to the hunger strike.
