GOLAGHAT, June 26: The Golaghat District Secondary Additional (contractual) Teachers’ Association expressed strong reaction over the alleged comment of the State Education Minister on Tuesday. In a statement, the president, working president and secretary of the organization, Suresh Pujari, Dipjyoti Bordoloi and Dhrubajyoti Saikia respectively said that State Education Minister Sidhartha Bhattacharjya in a public meeting held at Biswanath Chariali said that there was shortage of fund to release remuneration for the secondary contractual teachers engaged in various schools of Assam. Besides, he said that teachers were engaged without planning.

After his comments, the contractual teachers are facing an uncertain future. They said that they had been serving sincerely since the last eight years but they were now facing financial hardship as they had not received four months’ salary. The contractual teachers’ organization demanded the State Education Minister to clarify his statement within 48 hours. They threatened to carry out massive protest against the government and also avoid classes, half-yearly examination and NRC work.
