Contractual teachers protest in Morigaon, slam government

MORIGAON, March 28: Along with the rest of the State, Morigaon District Secondary Additiol (contractual) Teachers’ Association on Tuesday staged a three-hour sit-in demanding regularization of service in front of the  DC office. Demanding the regularization of jobs, the teachers said that they were appointed under merit basis for the subjects English, Maths, Science and Social Studies in 2010 for 11 months on a monthly remuneration basis of Rs 8,000 during the tenure of the Congress government. Later, the then Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had extended the period from 11 months to 12 months along with the monthly remuneration from Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,500.Besides the association said that the minister had assured the teachers to give Rs.100 more than the contractual TET teachers who were appointed in LP and ME schools in 2012. The teachers alleged that the government did not fulfill the demand and for that they were suffering. The association has demanded the present government to regularize their jobs or they would be forced to launch an agitation.
