'Contribute for a better and cleaner environment: Rajkhowa'

ITAGAR, Sept 5: Aruchal Governor J P Rajkhowa on Friday exhorted all the stakeholders to contribute towards Prime Minister rendra Modi’s campaign of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) for a better and cleaner environment.

The governor was addressing a meeting at Raj Bhawan here to review the initiatives taken by different stakeholders for success of SBA which, was attended by state government officials and representatives from fincial institutions, non-government organisations, commercial houses and entrepreneurs, an official communiqué informed.

Expressing concern in regard to garbage collection and disposal in Itagar, the governor called upon all stakeholders to shoulder responsibility to rise to the expectation of the people.

Referring to the newspaper reports and photographs, he said that concerted effort should be made by all stake holders including Itagar Municipal Council members, commercial establishment and Industries.  

Pointing that many rivers and streams in the state, particularly in the capital have been polluted due to dumping of waste and garbage directly into the water bodies, he called for proper and strong action through sewage magement procedure to protect the aquatic lives.

Taking part in the discussion, Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi said that major stake holders including the urban local bodies, departments of PHE, Education and Rural Development must be proactive.

While stating that many cities have privatized the cleaning work, the CS suggested for workshop involving all stakeholders, the communiqué added.
