Contribution of Western Assam's colloquial language in development of Assamese language discussed

DHUBRI , March 11:  The Assamese department of BN College organised a semir on the topic 'Contribution of Western Assam's  colloquial language in development of Assamese language' in the college premises here on March 7. Delivering the keynote address on the topic, Dr Dipti Phukan Patgiri , Professor and Head of the department of Assamese , Guwahati Univesity, said that the Western Assam is very rich in colloquial language.

"I am very much attracted to the colloquial language of  the Western Assam. The colloquial language of Western Assam has deep impact on Assamese language. It has contributed a lot in the development of standard Assamese language," she said.

The semir was presided over by Dr Upendrajit Sarma, Associate Professor of Assamese department of BN College. In the begining of the semir, Bhupen Hazarikas' famous song Jilikabo Luitore Paar was performed.

Dr Dhruba Chakraborty, Principal of BN College delivered the welcome address. In his speech Chakraborty said that there is need of serious study of the colloquial languages of the Western Assam.

"It will help in the development of our society," he said.

Dr Taranikanta Deka, Associate Professor of Assamese Department of Guwahati Univesity also spoke in the semir. The progeamme was also attended by a large number of students, teachers and writers.
