Contribution of women in the field of science highlighted

JORHAT, March 11: Intertiol Women’s Day was celebrated at NEIST, Jorhat. The celebrations started with the announcement of competitions organized by IWDCC. The competitions were held on composition of theme song and quiz. The main function was held with a symposium on the topic    ‘Pledge for parity in Science from Mangalyaan to Mushroom’. A large number of members of the NEIST family participated in the competitions.

Dr Dipanwita Banik, scientist anchored the proceedings.  The symposium began with a welcome song. Secretary of the organizing committee, Dr Kalpataru Dutta Mudoi presented the welcome address and called for progress. Chief guest Anuradha Sarma Puzari deliberated on ‘Women- Today and tomorrow. Tracing the genesis of reciprocal strength of man and woman, she shared some of her feelings on status of woman, vis-a-vis globalization, economic status and impact of science on thought process.  

The guest-of-honour, Dr Aditi Bezbaruah was introduced by Dr Runjun Sharma. Dr Aditi Bezbaruah, in her presentation ‘Women in Science – looking backward and forward’, highlighted the fact that contribution of women to science through the ages is immense and commendable for their success in the face of adversity. Dr D Ramaiah, Director, NEIST, remarked on the immense potentialities still to be realized among the women workers and pointed out the paradigm shift in women issues in recent times.

Dr Swapli Hazarika, gave a brief overview of the competitions held and conducted the prize distribution ceremony. She conveyed the message of good wishes in the form of a poem from eminent persolity, Nurul Haque.
