Agartala, April 19:  The controversy over the resignation of CPI (M) leader of South Tripura district Himangshu Roy has deepened after the BJP has rubbished the allegation of applying force for the resignation.

The ruling BJP, however, alleged that the CPI (M) had hatched a conspiracy to defame the party in power.

South Tripura district committee president of BJP Bivishan Das, addressing a press conference at Belonia, said that Himangshu Roy had submitted his resignation on his own will and that the BJP was not exerting any pressure for his resignation.

The CPI (M), on the other hand, alleged that the BJP supporters had threatened and forced Roy to sign a resignation letter.

Following the CPI (M)’s allegation, the Tripura police called three BJP workers for interrogation.

Meanwhile, the police started investigation over the incident and DIG Gaurab Chakraborty visited Belonia and had a meeting with the South District SP on the matter.

A delegation of the CPI (M) on April 14 met Chief Minister Biplab Deb and alleged that their leaders and workers are being harassed by BJP supporters across the State.
