Convention to focus on development of smart libraries

 Tezpur, October 24: A press meet was held on Monday in connection with the 19th tiol Convention on Knowledge, Library and Information Networking (CLIN 2016) which will be organized jointly by DELNET-Developing Library Network, New Delhi and Tezpur University, from October 26-October 28 at Tezpur University.

DELNET is a major resource sharing library network connecting more than 5,600 libraries in India and eight other countries. CLIN 2016 will discuss a large number of latest issues under the theme ‘Smart Libraries and Inspired Librarians: Maging New Technologies, Digital Content and Service. This tiol convention will be iugurated on October 26 at the KBR Auditorium, Tezpur University by the Vice-President of India, Hamid Ansari. The iugural session will be presided over by the Governor of Assam,  Banwarilal Purohit. The guests of honour will include Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, Minister of State (IC) for DoNER, Dr Jitendra Singh and State Education and Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Dr HK Kaul, Director, DELNET, New Delhi and Prof. Mihir Kanti Chaudhuri, Vice-Chancellor, Tezpur University will also be present on the occasion.

The tiol convention will discuss a number of issues concerning the development of smart libraries and inspiring librarians. The landscape of libraries has undergone a major shift in the last three decades. From the traditiol libraries to computerized collections and mobile libraries; from local content access to the instant global access; from manual check-ins/check-outs to barcode/RFID, the libraries need to get transformed into centres of unlimited collections, connections and collaborations. The emphasis in this tiol convention is how to introduce latest technologies among the libraries, especially in the Northeast.

The tiol convention is scheduled for three days. After the iuguration on October 26, tutorial will be conducted on ‘How to write an Effective Research Paper: A Knowledge Enhancer for LIS Professiols’. The speakers from academic community, publishing community and library world will be sharing their expertise. On the second and third days, the invited speakers and the paper presenters will deliberate on various themes and sub-themes of the conference. Invited speakers from different parts of India and also from UK will be participating. This will certainly be a knowledge sharing and knowledge-enriching experience for the delegates from the Northeast.

An exhibition showcasing various library/technology related products will also be organized during the convention for three days. CLIN, 2016 will help the participants to know about the current day tools and technologies prevalent in transforming the libraries as ‘Smart Libraries’and also to motivate and enhance the image of the LIS professiols and to inspire them to serve the users well.
