Convert greenery into asset: Kropha

SHILLONG, May 5: Chief Secretary to the government of Meghalaya KS Kropha on Friday stressed on the need to have a better mechanism in converting the greenery of the State into an asset for a sustaible livelihood.

The government’s top official was speaking at a one day workshop on Green Economy Initiative, organised by the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA), at the State Convention Centre, Shillong.

The workshop saw the active participation of entrepreneurs and farmers from all the Districts of the State.  

In his iugural address, Kropha said, “There is a need to have a better mechanism in converting the greenery of the State into an asset for a sustaible livelihood.”

Lamenting on the fact that most of the tural resources are in abundance in the State but is left untapped and unexplored, the Chief Guest said that whatever the causes are, these can be well addressed by the community at large and added that as far as green economy is concerned what we need to look into more seriously is in the context of economy, how by overcoming the challenges we can exploit the abundance and make it more favourable for the economic growth of the State.

He also urged upon the participants to make efforts in uplifting the initiative of preserving the tural resources of the State.
