Convincing victory for Guwahati FC

GUWAHATI, Nov 21: Guwahati FC registered their first victory in the 2nd Division tiol League defeating Fateh Hyderabad convincingly 3-0 at the NFRSA stadium, Maligaon today.The home team were leading by 2-0 in the first half.

It was the second game for both the teams in the competition. Guwahti FC, who faced Mohammedan Sporting in the iugural game, lost the match by 1-2. On the other hand Fateh Hyderabad came here drawing their match against Neroca in Imphal.

Although the score line itself indicated that Guwahati FC domited into the game but still it’s not a proper picture of the game. The local outfit should win the game much higher margin unless they wasted series of opportunities in both the halves.

Guwahati FC, from the very beginning of the match, made it clear that they needed full points from the game and it’s possible only if they played attacking soccer. Lalrinfela, undoubtedly the star of the game, played good soccer throughout the match and he was instrumental in most of the attack that his team made during the 90 minutes.

After a couple of missed chances, home team filly got the lead in the 11th minutes through captain Durga Boro.The side was awarded a free kick just top of the box and Lalrinfela took a nice curving shots. Although opponent goalkeeper B Vigneshwaran tried to feast the ball but he failed to connect properly and  Durga, who was near by, pushed it into the net with a nice header. Guwahati FC thereafter simply toyed with the opponent and created one after one opportunities. However they maged to convert only one to goal through Adelaja in the 32nd minutes. Adelaja, who missed one easy chance few minutes back, didn’t need to do too much as Vicky Meitei’s nice pass beat all the opponent players including goalkeeper and opportunist striker just pushed it into the empty goal.

James Singh made it 3-0 in the second half and that was the best goal of the match. James was on the top of the box when ball came to him and he beat the opponent goalkeeper from that spot with a spectacular shot.

Guwhati FC although missed several opportunities but Subhash Bhowmick, the Technical Director of the team, are pretty happy with team’s performance. Talking to The Sentinel just after the game he said, “ We wanted  three points from this game and I am happy that my boys are successful to collect it.”

Captain Durga Boro too looked satisfied after his team opened account in the competition with an easy victory. In a brief speech the former NEUFC player said,“ We want a win in our first home game and we are successful to do it. Now we have to maintain this performance in the coming games too.” The win took Guwahati FC into the second spot in the points table.

Meanwhile Mohammedan Sporting shared points with Gangtok Himalaya as the game between the two sides ended as a goalless draw at Barasat today.
