Cooperative holds key to solving unemployment

Shillong, Nov 14: Meghalaya Minister for Cooperation Roshan Warjri said that co-operative movement is the way out to bail out the State and country from the crisis of unemployment.

Speaking at the 64th All India Cooperative Week Celebration 2017 under the theme “Empowering People through Digitalization of Cooperative” and sub theme “Good Governce and Professiolisation through Cooperative”,  Warjri said unemployment is one of the crises that the State and the country as a whole have been facing today. Therefore, it is imperative to promote and strengthen the cooperative movement for creating employment so as to eble the people, especially the unemployed youth, to make their livelihood more institutiolised, she added.

Warjri also lauded the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank for its untiring efforts in extending services by setting up many branches at different places, particularly in far-flung areas, to provide fincial services to farmers and the society.

She also suggested the organiser to showcase all the successful stories produced by the cooperative societies on every cooperative week celebration so as to inspire and encourage others.

Other highlights of the day included release of booklets and brochures on cooperative, handing over of mementos and certificates to State Bank of India Employees’ Consumer Cooperative Store Ltd and to Bluevilda Sweetly as a veteran cooperator.
