'Cooperative societies being deprived'

From a Correspondent
Kamalpur, March 8: The All Assam Gram Panchayat Cooperative Society has expressed disappointment over newly-registered panchayat cooperative societies being deprived of their privileges. This was stated by president and secretary of the organization, Nurul Haque and Manoranjan Kalita respectively, who also added that since the days of former Chief Minister Sarat Chandra Singha, the co-operative movement had started but after it began losing its significance, a pact was signed between the Cooperative Department and the Food and Civil Supplies department of Assam, for distribution of essential commodities at a fair price through the panchayat cooperative societies. In 2009, the Cooperative Department issued a letter to all panchayat bodies to build their own cooperative societies. However, the newly formed cooperative societies have not been granted their license for the public distribution of the essential commodities.  Because of this, the panchayat cooperative societies were not getting their due privileges.
