Cop’s family files FIR

Shillong, January 30: Unsatisfied by the “suicide theory”, Chaleth Pyngrope, wife of Sub–Inspector (SI) in–charge Patharkhmah Outpost in Ri–Bhoi district, Pearlystone Joshua Marbaniang, today filed an FIR at Nongpoh police station and demanded an independent or CBI inquiry into his death. Marbaniang was found critically injured in his official quarters with a gunshot on his head on the night of January 24. The incident happened after he had detained around 32 trucks which carried coal illegally to Assam via Mairang–Azara road. “I have filed an FIR since I do not accept that my husband committed suicide,” Pyngrope said. She also informed that in the FIR she has demanded for an independent or CBI inquiry. Meanwhile, MLA David Nongrum, who is Pyngrope’s cousin, said that he cannot accept that Marbaniang can commit suicide by shooting himself from such an angle. “Now that an FIR has been filed, let investigation be taken up,” Nongrum said. It may be mentioned that even the CSWO has demanded investigation by the CBI.
