Goalpara April 28: In a shocking development on Friday in Goalpara, a pregnt lady has alleged that her abortion was refused by a doctor in the government hospital as she could not fulfil the demand for bribe for her operation. According to the information, Nilima Khatun, wife of Noor Islam of Simulbari, West Goalpara conceived for the third time. As the family already had two children, they decided to go for abortion and approached the doctors of ‘Maternity and Child Health Centre’ at Goalpara town. The first lady doctor present at that time advised for a sonography prior to the operation. However, when Nilima Khatun returned to the hospital after the sonography, the first doctor was not present there and as a result they approached the second lady doctor. The doctor then demanded Rs 5,000. The economically backward family offered two thousand five hundred rupees to which the so called human service provider refused. By the time, Roushra Begum, GP president of the patient arrived at the scene and requested the doctor to undertake the operation citing her poor background. To this, the lady doctor titled ‘Paul’ misbehaved with the patient and ordered them to go out. The victim and her family then returned from the hospital with a decision to lodge a complaint in the office of the deputy commissioner.
