Cote d'Ivoire, Congo storm into CHAN semis

Butare, Jan 31: Top ranked African football team Cote d’Ivoire romped into the Africa tions Championship (CHAN) semifils after beating Cameroon 3-0 here. After playing a goalless draw at the Huye Stadium on Saturday, Cote d’Ivoire returned strongly and scored through Koffi Boua with a well taken header.

The ASEC Mimosas player headed the ball into the net after 96 minutes with the Cameroon defenders not able to do anything to stop the ball.

Moussa Souleymanow netted the second goal from a well taken Yazid Atouba Emane cross after 103 minutes.

Cote d’Ivoire skipper Moumi Nicolas Brice later scored a beautiful goal with the shot taken from the centre of the pitch in the 108th minute.

Meanwhile the Democratic Republic of Congo football team qualified for the semifils after beating hosts Rwanda.

Coach Florent Ibenge’s team beat Rwanda 2-1 in the first quarter-fil clash at the Amahoro Stadium on Saturday in front of 30,000 fans. IANS
