The programme started with Red Flag hoisting in the Priya Gupta Memorial Hall by Tonmoy Raha, assistant general secretary of NFRMU which was followed by a grand mass meeting in front of Bongaigaon Engineering workshop where several noted persons including Ashish Biswas, Tonmoy Raha, Gobinda Biswas, Bongaigaon district secretary of HMS, Hareswar Das, president of Bongaigaon district CITU, Swadhin Sikdar, deputy chairperson of All India Employees’ Council and many others were present. After the open meeting a mass rally was taken out from the meeting field which moved through the town and ended at Priya Gupta Memorial Hall.

Addressing the gathering, Ashish Biswas said that all Central Government employees’ unions and federations had jointly decided to observe countrywide general strike on September 2. “We have given maximum time to this government to stop their activity for the benefit of corporate houses and against the common people.
