Mangaldai: The autumn festivity of Durga Puja is finally over. It is now time for all to check the gifts received from their near and dear ones. And what can be the special gift for a married couple who has spent seven years of conjugal life without a child?

A couple from Dakshin Dinjapur district of Assam’s neighboring State West Bengal was highly delighted to receive a unique Puja gift in the form of a two-year-old healthy male baby from Darrang district as per the rules and regulations framed by the Government of India. Just on the eve of Durga Puja, this couple took home this precious gift after a long legal procedure framed by the Central Adoption Resource Agency (CARA) under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. The Prospective Adoptive Parents (PAPs) has received the baby for pre-adoption foster care from the Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA), namely ‘Aai’ under the management of voluntary organization Crystal Vision of Mangaldai.

This baby, who had earlier been surrendered by his biological parents, has created history as he is the first ever baby to be adopted legally from the district. To mark this historic event, a few days back a simple farewell ceremony was organized at the SAA where he had been growing up under utmost care since the last couple of months. Assistant Commissioner Hemashri Khanikar, as the representative of the Deputy Commissioner, embraced the baby with a traditional Assamese ‘Bihuwan’ and handed him over to his foster parents. Senior consultant pediatrician Dr. Gautam Bora, who has been monitoring the health of the baby, was also full of praise for the service of the caretakers of the SAA in maintaining the sound health of the baby.

Prominent persons, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty, chairman of Mangaldai Municipality Board, Pratap Bordoloi and Rajib Kr. Deka of SRD Group of Companies also attended the function.
