Courier Van rescued from loot attempt, two arrested in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Garchuk police arrested two persons – Abdul Ali (21) and Nazrul Ali (31) on Monday allegedly while they were assaulting a driver of a courier van with an intention to rob the loads.

According to a police source, the courier van owned by the Gati Limited was coming all the way from Jorhat. After reaching Beltola, a motor bike and an Alto car started following the courier van. Apparently, after reaching Garchuk, five robbers, including Abdul Ali and Nazrul Ali, stopped the courier van, dragged out the driver and started assaulting.

Fortunately, in the mean time, a team of Garchuk police on petrol arrived at the spot and arrested Abdul Ali and Nazrul Ali. However, other three persons had managed to escape from the spot. Meanwhile, a case (No 665/18 u/s 394) has been registered. Search operation is on to nab the others involved with the loot attempt. Both Nazrul and Abdul have been remanded under five-day police custody.
