Court grants bail to accused in US woman gang-rape case

New Delhi, June 7: A court here has granted bail to four men arrested for allegedly gang-raping a US tourist here last year. Additiol Sessions Judge Anu Grover Baliga granted bail to accused Aniruddha Singh, Vivek Srivastava, Omprakash and Maqsood while putting several conditions on them, including that they would not leave the country without its permission. The relief was granted to them as the court said they were not required for further investigation and no purpose would be served by keeping them in further custody. The US tiol had filed a police complaint with the help of an NGO in early December, saying the accused drugged her and sexually assaulted her for two days and also recorded the incident. The accused, however, denied the charge.  Delhi Police have filed a charge sheet against Aniruddha, Omprakash, Maqsood and Vivek and arrested them in December last year. Aniruddha is a Nepal-based tourist guide, Omprakash a driver, Maqsood a helper, and Vivek a bell boy at the hotel. The 30-year-old woman alleged she was gang-raped at the luxury hotel in the first week of April last year. An FIR was registered on her complaint after Exterl Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj intervened. (IANS)
