Court takes up charge sheet against Uber cab driver

New Delhi January 5: A court on Monday took cognizance of the charge sheet filed against a driver of the Uber taxi company who has been accused of raping a 27–year–old woman executive here on December 5. Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Kumar Malik took cognizance of the charge sheet and transferred the case to sessions court, posting the matter for Jaury 7. Meanwhile, Delhi Police have provided documents related to the charge sheet to the accused taxi driver, Shiv Kumar Yadav.

Yadav, 32, allegedly raped the woman on the night of December 5, when she was heading back home in north Delhi’s Inderlok area in the cab he was driving. The woman works for a fince company in Gurgaon. The charge sheet was filed on December 24, 19 days after the sexual attack.

The court pulled up defence counsel for making irrelevant submissions like the copy of fingerprints supplied to him with charge sheet not being clear. The court said the copy was clear enough and told him not to try unnecessarily delay the trial. The court dismissed his plea for security for Yadav, saying that there was no visible injury on the accused.  The court appreciated the prosecuting authority for doing their duty very well, and no harm has happened to accused till then. Yadav’s judicial custody was extended till Wednesday. (IANS)
