CPI meet held at Dhubri

BILASIPARA, Feb 20: The 9th district conference of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Dhubri  district, was held at Khoraghat with a two-day programme on February 18 and February 19.

 In this connection, on February 18, the red flag of the party was hoisted by Kismat Ali while Prakash Paul Choudhury offered floral tribute on the martyrs’ column. Munin Mahanta, former MLA, garlanded the portrait of Gias Uddin Ahmed, former Deputy Speaker and a prominent leader of the CPI who expired recently.  Thereafter, delegate session was started with sir Uddin Ahmed and Prakash Paul Choudhury in the chair. Munin Mahanta attended the conference as state observer. Dayal Paul, district secretary of the party, submitted the secretarial report along with accounts of income and expenditure. After prolonged discussion, the meeting approved the report and the accounts. Thereafter, dissolving the old committee, the meeting  formed a new committee with Dayal Paul as district secretary, Kasem Ali and Prakash Paul Choudhury as assistant secretaries  and Eyakub Ali as treasurer.

 The conference adopted a few important resolutions  on sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities, fixation of remunerative prices of agricultural products, stopping harassment on labourers who migrated from lower Assam to upper Assam and passing of 33 per cent women reservation bill in the Lok Sabha.

 On  February 19, the open session of the conference was held at Khoraghat under the president ship  of sir Uddin Ahmed. Newly elected district secretary Dayal Paul explained the aims and objectives of the meeting. The meeting was addressed by Kismat Ali, Chand Bahadur Molla, Mahesh Roy, Munin Mahanta, and Dr. Anes Ahmed. Mahesh Roy and Ranjit Roy sung a few revolutiory songs. The meeting ended with shouting of revolutiory slogans.
