CPM-BJP clash sparks tension, demonstration in police station

Agartala, Sept 26: Tension is prevailing on Monday following clashes between the supporters of the BJP and CPI(M) near Modern Club on College Road in Shibgar area on Sunday evening. The tension started following a sudden road blocked movement by the BJP workers disrupting normal communication on the vital road. The clash started when the CPI(M) workers protested against such movement. The BJP alleged that seven of their party workers sustained injuries during clash.

BJP alleged that they were attacked by the CPI(M) workers in presence of the police and later demonstrated in front of the East Agartala Police station demanding immediate arrest of the accused CPI(M) workers.

Abhijit Saptarshi, SP (West) rushed to the police station and tried to pacify the agitated BJP workers.

BJP alleged that two of their party workers were attacked and assaulted by the CPI(M) workers at Mahashakti area, Jogendra gar on few days back but police did not take any action despite filing specific complain.

BJP workers led by party's Pratapgarh Mandal committee on Sunday afternoon met the officer-in-charge of the College Tilla police outpost demanding immediate arrest of the accused persons. According to allegation, the OC failed to give any assurance forcing them of start road blocked movement.

Kalyani Roy, a BJP leader said that police is working as per instruction of the CPI(M) and not arresting the accused. He threatened that the agitation will continue till the accused are not arrested.
