CPM-led Left Delegation Alleges "Reign of Terror" Under BJP Rule in Tripura

A visiting delegation of Left leaders and the social activists today alleged that a "Reign of Terror" was let loose by the hoodlums and goons "sponsored by the ruling BJP" after it came to power in March 2018. The BJP-Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) government assumed office on 9 March, ending the 25 years rule of Left Front government in the state. Addressing a press conference in Agartala, the leader of the delegation, K.K. Ragesh, also a member of Rajya Sabha Communist Party of India (Marxist), alleged that after the Assembly elections in Tripura the law and order has collapsed in the state and a sense of fear is prevailing.

The four-member delegation, including K.K. Ragesh; Medha Patkar, a social activist; Rajaram Singh, a CPI-ML politburo member; and president of All India Kishan Sabha visited the alleged terror-stricken areas of Tripura for the last three days. "The scenario of Tripura is terrible. The way people were beaten, murdered, physically attacked and assaulted including women by the goons of BJP-IPFT are inhuman and unimaginable," Singh said. He alleged that the ruling party workers were destroying the democracy in the state and they would raise this matter in the Parliament.

The BJP was using Tripura as a laboratory, where they can experiment to target the opposition, let loose terror, commit murder and dacoity, looting and torture women, minorities, Dalits and poor, Singh said. Whereas, Medha Patkar expressed a concern about the future of the state. The BJP and RSS workers are spoiling the livelihood of the common people in the name of politics. They are murdering democracy in the name of forming development committees in different localities. The entire social and democratic fabric is being destroyed, Patkar said.

The CPM charged the BJP with "unleashing a reign of terror" on Left workers in Tripura and sought the immediate intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in bringing the violence to an end before the situation gets worsened.
