CPM presses for publication of draft roll of NRC

FROM OUR Special Correspondent

Silchar, April 26: Though the Supreme Court of India in its order has directed the Centre to publish the draft roll of NRC by March 31, 2017, the authorities concerned are yet to show any concrete action. Before that also, the Apex Court has fixed the deadlines, but to no effect. There is apprehension in certain quarters that the very process of filization of NRC is being thwarted by some vested elements. The role of commul and chauvinistic hands is more than apparent in this regard. Unless the NRC is filized and published, the fate of Aadhaar card will hang in balance.

It is on this issue that CPM staged a sit in demonstration before the statue of Khudiram Bose at Club Road here today. The central and state governments led by BJP are making tall promises without resolving the fundamental problems of people. CPM leaders, Dulal Mitra, secretary town committee, and Krishvallav Sinha, secretary, west Silchar committee, came down heavily on the state and the Centre, alleging of indulging in false talks of providing jobs to 2 crore unemployed youths in 2 years. Demonetization has failed to bring back black money.

Both the governments are protecting the interest of a handful of multitiol companies. This is harming the small and middle scale entrepreneurs, the leaders said. The FDI has also failed to make any impact on economic development. No new industries are coming up. On the other hand, the inflation is reaching sky high. The price of gas cylinders is increasing with a view to abolish the subsidies systematically and gradually. In order to divert the attention of common people from their pressing problems, the governments are indulging in commul politics.

In order further to weaken the left and democratic movements, social media as well as print and electronic media are being utilized for spreading anti-communist propaganda. In Cachar, many are yet to get food security ration cards. Supply of sugar through ration shops has come to a standstill. Even the monthly allotment of rice has become irregular. Added to this is the tactics adopted by ration shop dealers to supply less quantity of allotted rice on the plea of reduced commission to them and for meeting their transportation cost.

The process of provincialization of venture schools is at cross-roads. The CPM leaders did not spare the municipal board for its failure to improve the draige system of this town. During monsoon, larger part of civic life gets badly affected due to unprecedented water logging. The 154 crore master draige scheme during 2007-08 of Congress regime has been caught in the quagmire of corruption and ultimately shelved. The leaders have demanded fresh project to solve the problem of inundation. They also scoffed at the dream flyover project and opined this alone could not ease the traffic congestion of this town. Altertive method has to be evolved.

Apart from that the people of Barak Valley are caught in the multifarious problems of slow pace of by-pass, ubated erosion by Barak and its tributaries, bad condition of roads, bridges and highways among others. Through the day’s protest demonstration, CPM after a long time has tried to exert its presence and highlight the issues which call for the attention and immediate resolution.
