Crackdown on illegal plying of tractors

DHUBRI, March 16: Altogether 15 tractors plying illegally in Dhubri district, were seized and the owners were pelized by the officials of  Dhubri District Transport Office and a total fine of Rs 1,37, 000 was realized in the process over the last two days. 9 tractors were seized on Wednesday and total pelty of Rs 1,09,000 was recovered while on Thursday the department imposed pelty on another 6 tractors and collected Rs 28,000 as fine for violating the Motor Vehicle Act, an official source said.
The source informed that at the instance of Dhubri Deputy  Commissioner Anta Lal Gyani, Dhubri District Transport Officer (DTO) Debajyoti Karjee swung into action and with help of Dhubri police seized the tractors plying in the district. When contacted by The Sentinel, the Dhubri District Transport Officer informed that the tractors were plied without insurance and fitness certificate.
“Moreover, most of the tractors were found to be engaged in transportation of soil without the necessary permission from the Forest department. We released the tractors with the warning to get all the papers updated within a fortnight or else if seized next time, the same will not be released,” Karjee added. The DTO further informed that during the fincial year 2017-18, a total of 215 tractors were seized from various parts of Dhubri district and more intensive drive would continue till the end of this fincial year closing on March 31.
