Crackdown on illicit liquor sale in Dibrugarh district

Dibrugarh: As part of the ongoing campaign against illicit liquor in Dibrugarh district, the Excise Department has filed a total of 152 cases against violators of excise laws in the past one month or so. From January 17 to February 14, the department has seized large quantity of illicit liquor as well as certain raw materials from the urban, rural and tea garden areas of the district.

Excise Superintendent of the district, Ajay Bayan said that the department alone as well as with the help of the police had begun campaigns against the sale of illicit liquor in many places like Namrup, Naharkatia, Lahoal, Dikom, Moran and Chabua. Also, action had been taken against those hotels and dhabas alongside the highway that were selling liquor without proper license. They have also been booked under section 53 of the Assam Excise Act.
